Sacred Hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
This expression brings together, in devotional language, the love of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in the life of the Holy Family. It must be used precisely: the celebrations of the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary are recognized in the liturgy, while the proposal concerning the Heart of Joseph remains distinct.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph in salvation history
Jesus, Mary and Joseph are united by the concrete life of the Holy Family and by a mission received from God. Saint Joseph welcomes Mary, exercises legal and protective fatherhood toward Jesus, and places his work and abilities at their service.
This family communion allows them to be contemplated together in a devotional key. It does not erase the differences between Jesus, Mary and Joseph or authorize attributing the same nature or dignity to all three.
Distinct celebrations
The Church’s liturgy celebrates the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary on their own related days. Saint Joseph also has universal celebrations, especially on 19 March and 1 May.
The official sources consulted do not present a joint universal celebration of the three hearts or a universal feast of the Heart of Saint Joseph. CorJoseph proposes a new memorial and must always make this status explicit.
A devotional synthesis of the Holy Family
To speak of the “Sacred Hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph” expresses, in devotional language, the communion of love and mission lived in the Holy Family. The expression does not place all three on the same level: Jesus is the Son of God; Mary and Joseph are human creatures called to serve him in distinct missions.
The presence of the three hearts in prayers and images can support contemplation of the Holy Family, but it does not by itself constitute official approval of a joint devotion or a liturgical institution. CorJoseph uses the expression within this devotional limit and specifically proposes a memorial of the Most Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph.
The institutional account of the Shrine of Fatima records Saint Joseph with the Child Jesus and Our Lady on 13 October 1917. This account can form part of the history of the devotion, but it should not be presented by itself as a doctrinal definition or liturgical institution.
The place of the petition
The petition promoted by CorJoseph invites the faithful to unite in a supplication for the institution of a liturgical memorial dedicated to the Most Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph, proposed in temporal proximity to the celebrations of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
It is a filial and respectful request, entrusted entirely to the discernment and decision of the competent authority of the Church.
